Economic Immigration

RCIC in good standing with the CICC.

Economic immigration programs allow eligible foreign nationals to obtain permanent residence in Canada based on their skills, education, work experience, and language ability. The main federal pathway is Express Entry, but Provincial Nominee Programs and other targeted categories may also apply depending on your profile.

At Upside Immigration Consulting Inc., we help you understand where you stand, build a competitive profile, and prepare documentation that is organized, accurate, and properly supported.

How can I get permanent residence through economic immigration?

Economic immigration pathways assess candidates based on skills, education, work experience, and language ability. The main federal system is Express Entry, which manages the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Provincial Nominee Programs offer additional pathways aligned to provincial labour market needs.

  • Express Entry uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to score and rank candidates in the pool
  • Invitations to Apply (ITAs) are issued in regular draws, which may be general or category based
  • Provincial Nominee Programs can add 600 points to your CRS score or provide a separate application stream
  • A job offer is not required in every Express Entry program
  • Canadian work experience can improve eligibility under the Canadian Experience Class

Express Entry

Express Entry is the main federal system for managing applications from skilled workers seeking permanent residence. Candidates create an online profile and enter a pool where they are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). IRCC issues Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in regular draws, which may target all eligible candidates or specific categories such as French language proficiency or healthcare workers.

Eligibility depends on which Express Entry program you qualify for. The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class each have different minimum requirements for factors such as work experience, language ability, and education.

We can help with
  • CRS score review and profile strategy
  • Express Entry profile preparation
  • document checklist and review
  • language test strategy
  • educational credential assessment guidance
  • category based draw eligibility review

Provincial Nominee Programs

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate candidates for permanent residence based on their own labour market and economic needs. Each province operates its own streams, and eligibility criteria vary widely between programs and streams.

Some PNP streams are aligned with Express Entry, meaning that a provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points and typically leads to an ITA in the next draw. Other streams operate outside Express Entry and require a separate application directly to IRCC.

We can help with
  • PNP stream identification and eligibility review
  • Expression of Interest strategy
  • supporting document preparation
  • nomination application support
  • federal permanent residence application after nomination

Common Questions

Economic Immigration questions

What are the main pathways to permanent residence in Canada?

Some of the main pathways include economic immigration programs such as Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, and family sponsorship. The pathway that applies depends on the category, eligibility rules, and your personal circumstances.

Do I need a job offer for Express Entry?

Not always. Express Entry includes different programs, and a job offer is not required in every case. Some candidates may benefit from a qualifying job offer, and certain programs may require a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification.

Can Canadian work experience improve my permanent residence options?

In some cases, yes. Canadian work experience can be important under certain permanent residence pathways, including programs managed through Express Entry, particularly the Canadian Experience Class.
